Make-A-Wish ...
- Thu, Nov, 19, 2009
Rebekah Wilson, above, Make-A-Wish Foundation development coordinator met with Farragut Optimist Club at Season’s Café, Thursday, Nov. 5. She said there are many children ages 18 months to 18 years who receive granted “wishes” in the Knox area. Make-A-Wish hopes to see more referrals made on behalf of children with life-threatening illnesses. Though trips to Disney World are the number one wish for children with life-threatening illnesses, meet and greets with celebrities also are popular.
In particular, Country Music singer Vince Gill, who is married to Christian recording artist Amy Grant, granted a wish and met a terminally ill child on a golf course. Though the meet was only supposed to be brief, he spent hours with the child. He followed up with the family and attended the child’s funeral. At one point Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus’ list was a two-year wait. “You have to make sure that the child will still want to meet Hannah Montana two years down the road,” Wilson said.
