Blance duo lead Webb to Division 11-A state title game

The Aaron Blance Show, all five touchdowns of it, has led Webb School of Knoxville into to the TSSAA Division II-A state title game.
Blanche, a freshman running back, scored on receptions of 47, 33 and 23 yards from quarterback Parker Wormsley, and rushed for a pair of 14-yard TDs in Webb’s 42-28 state semifinal victory at Evangelical Christian School in Memphis Friday, Nov. 20.
Webb, 11-1, with face University School of Jackson in the state championship game at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville. Opening kickoff is 4:30 p.m. EST, 3:30 CST, Thursday, Dec. 3.
“Aaron had a great game,” Webb head coach Dave Meske said. “He just made a lot of plays. Parker did a great job getting him the football. We tried some new things and they went well.”
Caleb Blance, sophomore standout running back, “had his best game of the year,” Meske said, rushing for 130 yards including a 6-yard touchdown run. “We moved him around, we played him at wingback, and he played a lot at fullback, which gave us some different things to take advantage of with his speed in the middle of the field.”
While holding ECS (10-2) to less than 100 yards total offense in the first half, the Spartans built a 28-7 halftime lead that increased to 35-7 after three quarters. “It was the best football performance we’ve had all year,” Meske said. “I was most impressed with of our offensive line, because they were a lot bigger than us up front.
“Up until this point, [ECS] had controlled the line of scrimmage in all of their games. We were able to give Parker time to throw the ball.”
Individually, Meske said senior right tackle Jake Saas (5-foot-10, 235) “is the base for our offensive line.” Also up front is senior left tackle Graham Campbell, junior center Jay Werner and guards Luke Letsinger, a senior, and sophomore Tyler Harrison.
Webb senior defensive back Clark Johnson had two interceptions “that were just great plays,” Meske said. “I thought Donovan Whiteside [defensive end] played well on defense.”
Campbell, also a linebacker, had an interception stopping an ECS drive deep in Webb territory.
Webb kicker Michael Carillon was 6-of-6 on conversion attempts.
