Carino’s to reopen

Johnny Carino’s Italian Restaurant will reopen at its former location off Lovell Road Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Customers can expect some changes.

“The décor and the overall ambience of the restaurant: we are going to make it much quieter and more intimate,” Paul Delahunt, director of operations for Diverse Concepts, said.

“Italian should be intimate,” he added.

New interior walls will separate the restaurant from the kitchen and food preparation noise.

“We’re widening the tables to make the tables a lot bigger and more comfortable,” Delahunt said, adding the restaurant also has added more booth seating.

The décor will feature new lights, artwork and carpet.

The core menu will be the same but will have a few minor addition and deletions. However, Delahunt said customers should expect lower prices.

“We’re really going after value, and they’ll see that in the prices,” Delahunt said.

Delahunt said customers should expect “great service.”

“We’re doing some wonderful hiring,” he said, adding the restaurant will hire between 75 and 100 people.

“We’re pretty excited to be able to do that,” he added.

Delahunt said the restaurant will be owned by original franchise owners Bob and Holly McManus, also owners of other Johnny Carino’s locations in Pigeon Forge.

They previously owned Johnny Carino’s before selling that location to the corporate chain in the late 2000s. Corporate closed the restaurant in 2008.

Diverse Concepts also owns Parkside Grill and Lakeside Tavern; McManus has interest in those restaurants.

“We think the climate’s changed a little bit,” Delahunt said of the reopening.

“We think we can go back there and do it better than before, and that’s what we’re trying to do,” he added.

Johnny Carino’s will seat about 215.
