Town’s Brewer earns Leader of the Year award

The town of Farragut announced Scott Brewer, engineering technician, was awarded the Edward C. Archer Young Public Works Leader of the Year Award Oct. 26, at the Tennessee Chapter of the American Public Works Association’s annual conference in Kingsport.

Brewer also was awarded a $750 scholarship from the TCAPWA to assist in completing his civil engineering technician degree at Pellissippi State Technical Community College.

Established in Ed Archer’s honor, this award is presented to an individual, who over the person’s young professional career has contributed to the advancement of public works and TCAPWA.

The person must be active in TCAPWA including participation in meetings and activities at the branch and chapter levels. Ed Archer is a past TCAPWA president and retired chapter administrator. Brewer was nominated by John Calvert, current Tennessee chapter administrator.

A member of TCAPWA and the American Public Works Association since 1995, Brewer has earned certificates in all areas of the Tennessee Public Works Institute. Beginning his career as a truck driver with the own of Farragut in 1990, he was promoted as the Town’s first public works foreman in March 1992 and supervised the right-of-way crew for the next 16 years. In May 2008, Brewer joined the Town’s engineering department as an engineering technician.

Upon completion of his degree at PSTCC, he plans to complete his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management at East Tennessee State University.
