Lady Hawks spread wings, beat WBHS in tournament

A 43-40 victory against William Blount during Heritage Thanksgiving Classic Friday, Nov. 27, broke new ground for Jennifer Galloway’s second-year program.

It was the program’s first-ever regular season win against a non-District 3-AAA opponent.

“We handled their pressure, out-rebounded them,” coach Galloway said. “Despite a bad shooting night, we were able to pull out the win.”

A pair of junior guard/post led the HVA charge. Tiffany Cantrell scored a team-high 11, followed by Emily Cornelius with eight.

The Lady Hawks (1-3) lost to host Heritage 50-36 Saturday, Nov. 28, despite nine points from senior guard Haley Keith.

“We had a tough time getting into our offense and running it,” Galloway said.

Losing 66-44 at Maryville Tuesday, Nov. 24, Hardin Valley rallied from a 24-7 first quarter deficit to pull within eight in the third quarter before sliding back.

Offensively, the Lady Hawks were led by junior post Jennifer Schilling with nine points.

Junior guard Lauren Trent and freshman point guard Kristin Lane scored eight each.
