The March of Dimes is pleased to announce that Doug Horne has been selected as the recipient of the 2010 March of Dimes Commercial Real Estate Industry Award and will be honored at the 4th Annual March of Dimes Commercial Real Estate Industry Award breakfast, at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 28, at Cherokee Country Club, presented by Horne Properties and sponsored by Lawler Wood and Home Federal.

With more than 11,400 babies born preterm in Tennessee every year, the March of Dimes is committed to giving every baby a healthy start in Tennessee and worldwide.

One in every seven babies is not receiving their full nine months of development and too many of them are not reaching their first birthday because of this.

Through events such as this, the March of Dimes is working to be champions for all babies.

Horne’s lengthy resume includes serving as Chairman of the Board/Chief Executive Officer of Horne Properties, Inc., University of Tennessee Board of Trustees, Tennessee Press Association Foundation Board of Trustees and the former Chairman of the Tennessee Democratic Party.

For the past 25 years, Mr. Horne has been in the business of building shopping centers and commercial developments throughout the southeast. In addition to Horne Properties, Inc. he also owns Republic Newspapers and the Horne Radio Group in Knoxville.

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

Founded in 1938 to find a cure for polio, the March of Dimes now funds research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies.
