Kylann Scheidt, Farragut High School two-time All-state senior volleyball outside hitter/setter, has been named to American Volleyball Coaches Association's 4th Annual Under Armour Girls High School All-America Team. The 6-foot-1 Tennessee Lady Volunteers signee is among 24 First Team honorees and 100 overall representing 27 states and 81 high schools. Scheidt and the other 23 First-Team honorees have been invited to play in Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match & Skills Competition at St. Pete Times Forum, Sunday, Dec. 20, in Tampa, Fla., in conjunction with the 2009 AVCA Annual Convention.

Taylor Askew, Webb School of Knoxville Class of 2006 graduate and standout athlete and junior offensive lineman at Tennessee Tech, has been named to the prestigious ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Football Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America. Askew, a junior, is a second-team pick, one of just two players selected from the Ohio Valley Conference. Askew has been been named first-team Academic All-District for three consecutive years while also being named to TTU Athletic Director's Honor Roll all six of his semesters. Winner of the OVC Academic Medal of Honor for posting the highest GPA in the league among all conference football players each of the past two years, Askew also was named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll the last two seasons. A major in political science, Askew owns a 4.0 grade point average and has started every Golden Eagles game the last two seasons. He is part of an offensive line that ranks among national leaders in fewest sacks allowed.

Bearden High School is starting a middle school AAU wrestling team. Any sixth-, seventh- or eighth-graders interested in joining need to come to a sign-up meeting starting at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 3, in BHS gym lobby.
