2009 Bearden graduate Goodman dies

It had been just 14 months since Miles Gregory Goodman and family had buried his mother, Belinda Goodman, who lost a seven-year battle with cancer in fall 2008.

A two-vehicle crash on Bluegrass Road Sunday morning, Dec. 6, finds the Goodman family grieving once again.

Miles, 18, a 2009 graduate of Bearden High School who was a back-up goalkeeper on the BHS Bulldogs’ 2006 state championship boys soccer team, died at the scene of the crash near the corner of Summerhill Drive, according to Martha Dooley, Knox County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

“I knew Miles pretty well,” said Linda Radcliffe, BHS science teacher and Bearden soccer assistant coach. “Miles loved his mother tremendously.

“One of my players told me that Miles told his brother [Jake], that he couldn’t bear to have another Christmas without his mother,” Radcliffe added.

A student at Pellissippi State Community College, Miles is survived by his father, William “Greg” Goodman; brother, Jake Goodman, a BHS freshman, and grandmother, Mary Taylor of Glade Springs, Va.

Family received friends Thursday, Dec. 10, in Cokesbury Center, followed by a Celebration of Life ceremony officiated by the Rev. Stephen DeFur.

The family requests any memorial gifts go to Faith for the Future, care of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 9919 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN, 37922.
