Admirals duo No. 1 in Georgia; BHS wrestlers 3rd at Seymour

Two Farragut Admirals wrestlers reached the mountaintop among a four-state, 18-team field at the prestigious Carpet Classic Saturday, Dec. 5, in Dalton, Ga.

“That’s a big deal, that is a very tough tournament,” FHS head coach Tim Brunson said about senior Ethan Farinella, first in the 135-pound class, and senior Greg Grieco, champ at 189, taking those honors among competition from Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida.

As a team, the Admirals finished ninth (More on Farragut later in this story).

Meanwhile, Bearden took third-place among a seven-team field at Seymour Duals Saturday, Dec. 12, at Seymour High School.

The Bulldogs, led by two wins each from Ian McKinley (112) and Peyton Landers (189), beat Powell, Austin-East and Cocke County before losing to Heritage.

“Farinella just walked through the tournament, just destroyed everybody,” Brunson said. “The awesome thing about it, he won and he didn’t wrestle his best.”

Grieco, 2009 Region 2 champion, “Continues to improve,” Brunson said. “He had a great tournament. Won in the finals easily.”

Among other Admirals in Dalton, Brunson praised 171 junior Josh Zink for “an outstanding job” so far this season with only two losses overall. “He was just one round away from placing in the tournament.”

Freshman Jake Lister (119) won two matches. “He did a great job for us, he’s never wrestled before,” Brunson said.

The coach also praised Skylar Grieco (112).

Farragut will participate in the prestigious Bradley Invitational Friday and Saturday, Dec. 18-19, at Bradley Central High School in Cleveland.
