Metz earns Eagle Scout honor
- Thu, Dec, 17, 2009
Brian Patrick Metz (pictured right), a 2009 graduate of Knoxville Catholic High School, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at an Eagle Court of Honor Tuesday, Oct. 20.
The ceremony, sponsored by Boy Scout Troop No. 444, was held at Farragut Presbyterian Church.
A freshman at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Ind., Metz, has participated in Scouting since first grade when he joined Pack No. 351 in Moraga, Calif. The highlight of his California scouting experience, he said, was an overnight stay in a prison cell on Alcatraz Island.
During his time with Troop 444 since Oct. 2003, Metz has earned 22 merit badges and held several troop leadership positions including Scribe and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.
Metz was named a National Merit Scholar in February.
At Notre Dame, Metz has written for the university’s student newspaper, tutored local high school students and participating in the American Model UN Conference in Chicago.
