FMS girls basketball ends 2009 perfect in conference

Farragut Middle School basketball's Lady Admirals ended the 2009 portion of its schedule undefeated in conference play.

Defense was the name of the game against Vine Middle and Carter Middle schools. The Lady Ads allowed just 16 points total while winning in convincing fashion, 43-9 and 40-7, respectively.

Against Vine, Madison Maples led a balanced scoring attack with eight points, followed by Rebecca Jameson scoring six and Kristen Freeman four points.

Kelsey Rookstool, Lexi Williams and Sabree Wilson came off the bench to score four points each, while Anna Woodford and Sofia Valencia added three points apiece. Mady Newby, Miranda Burt and Gracie Mabry chipped in two points each and Josie Jennings added a free throw.

Against Carter, Freeman led all scorers with 10 points and Maples had nine. Annie McMurry came off the bench to score five.

Farragut's bid to avenge its only loss of the season against non-conference foe Webb School of Knoxville fell short, 34-29.

Playing from behind the entire game, FMS pulled to within two in the fourth quarter before free throws by Webb put the game away. Maples led the Lady Admirals in scoring with 10 and Freeman added eight. Jennings and Jameson scored four each and Newby chipped in three.
