Hibbett Sports opens its doors

Hibbett Sports opened its newest store in the Knoxville area at 11427 Parkside Drive, Thursday, Jan. 7.

“This convenient new location is a win-win for our company and the Knoxville community. We are very excited to be serving the customers in this area,” Hibbett Sporting Goods CEO Mickey Newsome said in a press release.

According to Turkey Creek store manager Scott Linginfelter, the store specializes in team-related sporting goods.

“It’s like basketball, soccer, football, baseball … team sports, NFL, college apparel, NBA, and we also have footwear: technical running, basketball shoes, cross trainers and things like that,” Linginfelter said.

The store offers a wide array of tennis shoes and athletic shoes, as well as Under Armour and The University of Tennessee apparel.

Store hours are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 6 p.m., Sundays.

The corporate-owned store will employ about eight full- and part-time personnel.

The Farragut store joins others in the area, including a Hibbett Sports in Lenoir City and another in Oak Ridge.

“We research the markets we enter to learn what the customers of that area want from a sporting goods store,” Newsome said.

“We constantly update our merchandise assortment to offer the latest in product technology, performance and fashion so that we can meet the diverse needs of our customer’s active lifestyles,” he added.

The release stated “Tennessee has been a target of the companies’ expansion for several years now.”

Hibbett Sports has 52 stores in Tennessee and more than 760 nationwide. Each store is about 5,000 square feet, located in strip centers or enclosed malls.

Hibbett Sports has been in business since 1945.
