Ferowich is state Runner of Year

Megan Ferowich, sophomore track/cross country standout at Knoxville Catholic High School, has been named 2009-10 Gatorade Tennessee Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.

The award also recognizes Ferowich for “high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the race course.”

Ferowich (pictured left), who holds a 3.93 grade point average, becomes a finalist for Gatorade National Cross Country Runner of the Year.

The KCHS sophomore captured Class AAA Cross Country state honors last fall (17:47.76) while finishing fifth at national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (17:31) and captured fourth at Foot Locker South Regional championships (17:12).

“Megan has an incredible drive to be successful,” said Jason Surlas, KCHS athletics director. “She is very focused and an incredibly hard worker.

“She is 100 percent dedicated to the sport and to her entire high school experience,” Surlas added.

Award bestowed by The Gatorade Company in collaboration with ESPN RISE.
