Relax, there are many spas and clinics in the Farragut and West Knox County area that provide massages, beauty and body treatments.

A few of them are SkinCare Center, Chinese Back Rub, Massage Envy, Medi-Spa, Oasis Day Spa and East Tennessee Vein Clinic.

SkinCare Center Dermatology Associates of Knoxville in Farragut offers more than dermatology services. Some of the services are Cara Cosmetics, Jane Iredale Mineral cosmetics, dermal fillers, laser services, Botox, sclerotherapy, microdermabrasion, acne extractions, chemical peels, facials and extras such as waxing, lash tinting, lash perming, brow tinting, brow perming, ear candling, self tanner application and healthy tan

airbrushing.

Microdermabrasion is a clinic procedure aiding in the renewal of the skin: reducing enlarged pores, the appearance of sun damaged skin, stretch marks, age spots, pigmentation imbalances, scars, wrinkles and fine lines. A diamond-imbedded tip smoothes away the upper layer of dead skin cells. It is non-abrasive and painless. Treatments last about 30 minutes and a series of six treatments scheduled seven to 10 days apart is recommended. Monthly treatments are suggested after achieving optimal results.

“Microdermabrasion is a great way to rejuvenate the skin without any down time. After the treatment, the client can put makeup on and head back to the office. It polishes the skin,” SkinCare Center aesthetician Jennifer Ryan said.

OBAGI-C Rx is an at-home regimen designed to stop signs of premature aging. Results are typically seen within a few weeks of treatment. After use on a regular basis, healthier, more vibrant and youthful looking skin often is experienced by clients. There are morning and evening treatments to be used at home. Some of those products are SunGuard, Clarifying Serum, Exfoliating Day Lotion and C-Therapy Night Cream with vitamins C and E.

The Obagi is one of our big selling lines, Ryan said. “A free consultation is needed. There are systems designed for teens as well as adults,” Ryan added.

At Chinese Back Rub in Turkey Creek, store owner Wei Guang Liu said, “We incorporate the Asian ancient art of acupuncture without needles. We do it through massage.”

For more information, call 865-288-4235.

Massage Envy in Turkey Creek offers Swedish, deep tissue, prenatal, sport, craniosacral, neuromuscular, acupressure, trigger point, myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, reflexology, reiki, shiatsu, geriatric, minor and chair massages.

“Swedish massage is your basic massage, your long strokes, very relaxing and can be adjusted to suite the client’s needs,” Robin Manteris, clinic administrator, said.

“Sports massages require a lot of stretching,” Manteris said. Massage Envy offers sports massages pre- and post-event. “It is specific to the sports they use.”

Massage Envy is located at 11669 Parkside Drive, Knoxville, 37934. For more information, call 865-218-3689 or visit www.massageenvy.com.

Natural Alternatives Salons and Spas offer massages as well as salon services such as haircuts, coloring, styling and weaves.

“Two of the most unique massages at Natural Alternatives are the Himalayan and the Chakra massages,” Robin Hughes, Natural Alternatives manager at Renaissance | Farragut, said.

“The Himalayan massage is a two-hour spa, body treatment with a steam canopy. We use a shirodhara that allows water to trickle from above, down to your third-eye, warming the scalp. It’s very relaxing. Chakra massage uses the body’s energies to balance the client inside and out,” Hughes said.

“Most popular are the elemental massages that suit each individual client’s personal needs,” Hughes added.

Other treatments and massages offered are a rosemary mint body wrap, herbal body wrap, salt glow, salt glow with plant “pure-fume” steam bath, smoothing body polish, Caribbean therapy and Caribbean sugar scrub.

According to Medi-Spa At Knoxville Dermatology Group, fall and winter are the perfect seasons to consider removing unsightly superficial leg veins. The procedure gives clients time to recover and seek additional treatments if necessary, making their legs beautiful and vein-free by spring. Schlerotherapy treatment utilizes injections into troublesome veins and is usually preferred versus laser treatments at Medi-Spa.

In addition to schlerotheraphy, Medi-Spa offers pregnancy massages, hot stone massage, detoxifying baltic mud treatment, moisturizing European rose mud body treatment, “exfoli” sea salt glow body scrub, air brush tanning, European facial, custom facial, teen facial, lash enhancement, eyebrow tint; eyebrow and lip and chin waxes. Medi-Spa also offers manicure, pedicure, rejuvenation and correction procedures, laser services, cosmetic injectables, Botox Cosmetic, photorejuvenation IPL and photoregeneration.

For more information about Medi-Spa call 865-342-5823 or visit www.knoxdermmedispa.com.

At Oasis Day Spa, microdermabrasions, waxing, massage therapy, spa packages, body treatments, make-up and add-ons and hand and foot care treatments are offered.

What makes some pregnancies, or prenatal massages different from others?

“There’s a focus a lot on the low back and legs because they are carrying extra weight. If there is any edema [swelling] in legs or feet, our massage can relieve that,” Naomi Govinder, licensed massage therapist and registered certified reflexologist at Oasis Day Spa, said.

Beauty treatments such as lash and brow tinting also are offered.

For lash tinting, Oasis Day Spa uses “a vegetable-based dye, so it is not harmful. We leave the color on for 5-10 minutes and it lasts a week to two weeks. It makes them appear thicker and fuller. It’s really helpful for blonde and graying lashes,” Crystal Joyner, esthetician at Oasis Day Spa, said.

East Tennesssee Vein Clinic uses

three treatments for varicose

veins: Endovenous Laser Treatment, Ambulatory Phlebectomy and Endovenous Chemical Ablation.

Varicose veins occur from faulty valves within the veins, creating the “twisted bulging” appearance and discomfort.

According to EVLT’s Web site, they use advanced technology to treat varicose veins safely and effectively. A laser catheter is inserted inside the varicose vein and the laser energy seals the vein shut. The Vein Clinic’s Dr. Douglass decides the best treatment on a patient to patient basis.

With EVLT, there is no surgery or scars. The treatment takes less than an hour, provides immediate symptom relief and requires no anesthesia or hospitalization according to East Tennessee Vein Clinic.

Microphlebectomy is performed when large visibly bulging varicose veins persist after EVLT. They are treated two to four weeks after EVLT. The vein is anesthetized locally and a small needle puncture is made. The patient only feels pressure. A scalpel is not used and no stitches are needed. A bandage is placed on the leg and removed two days later after most visible veins have disappeared. For a week after treatment, a compression stocking is worn. Normally, the treatment leaves no visible scar.

Endovenous Chemical Ablation originated in Europe and is now used worldwide for treatment of varicose veins. First, the procedure provides an ultrasound map of the entire diseased venous network. After viewing the ultrasound, hidden trouble spots under the skin are located. While viewing the ultrasound visualization, a foamed sclerosant is injected into the diseased veins, causing the diseased veins to close down immediately. Over time, the veins narrow to the size of thread and are invisible beneath the skin.

ECA requires little down time; patients are able to resume the normal life. There is no scar left, no general or spinal anesthic or narcotic pain medications are needed. This is an outpatient treatment.
