‘Singing Valentines’ return

Farragut High School ensemble and advanced-mixed chorus will be singing for area valentines in its annual Singing Valentines fundraiser, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 12.

“Let Me Call You Sweetheart,” “You Are My Sunshine” and “Love Me Tender” are a few of the songs the ensemble will be singing to valentines.

Each recipient will have two songs sung to them. Special messages also may be included in the delivery.

Singing Valentines can be delivered on-campus at FHS or off-campus at area schools, homes, hospitals or other places of work.

“They like interrupting classes. They get on their knees, sing and embarrass” classmates, teachers and staff members, FHS chorus teacher Kenton Deitch.

“This is one of the things [my students] enjoy the most,” Deitch said, also saying it’s a long-standing tradition for Farragut.

Last year, the students raised $1,200 for the choral department through Singing Valentines.

FHS senior Caylor Wrinkle said this year the choral group has “spiced” it up with complex harmonies and cute little ditties.

“We went to hospitals last year and that was a lot of fun.

“We sang for a mother one year and she cried,” Caylor said.

Two romantic songs are sung by talented FHS quartets, plus a rose and a card are given for on-campus deliveries for $5 and off-campus for $15. Deadline for orders is Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Orders may be placed through FHS choral department, 865-671-7137, or at www. fhschoral dept.org or at FHS Commons during lunch break.
