Town releases 4-Q red-light stats

Farragut’s Photo Enforcement Warning Period Statistics announced:

The town of Farragut announces the following statistics for the fourth quarter enforcement period of Nov. 17 (first date after warning period) through Dec. 31, 2009 for its Photo Enforcement Program (red light camera system).

Following are the highlights from this period:

• 7,036 incidents were recorded.

• 2,627 incidents were rejected, after review by Photo Enforcement: Program Manager Ben Harkins, for such reasons as vehicles stopping a short distance over the stop bar that did not pose a traffic hazard, vehicles moving out of the way of an emergency vehicle, plates that were unidentifiable, and weather related issues.

• 160 incidents were not processed by Redflex due to technical issues.

• 372 incidents were not processed by Redflex because of lack of information.

• 3,877 citations were issued. Citations resulted in a $50 fine per offense.

Citizens are asked to be aware that a right turn on red requires a complete stop, not a “rolling stop.”

A “rolling stop” is a violation of Tennessee state law and will result in a citation. The Town photo enforcement program manager strongly urges anyone receiving a citation to review the video of the incident before deciding what course of action they will take.

Many citizens who believed they had stopped before turning right on red changed their minds after reviewing their video. The instructions for reviewing a video are on the Instruction Page of the citation.
