Editorís Note missed point, Moskos says

The Editorís Note to a recent presstalk item missed the point of a readerís complaint.

The writer cited the traffic problem at the intersection of Campbell Station Road and Parkside Drive/Grigsby Chapel Road. The writer correctly pointed out that the traffic at the intersection is frequently block-ed by cars turning left from westbound Parkside Drive onto southbound Campbell Station Road because of backed-up vehicles already on Campbell Station Road.

The stopped cars in the intersection thus prevent vehicles on Grigsby Chapel Road from moving eastward onto Parkside Drive when the traffic signal changes.

The writer suggested a need for a sheriffís officer at the intersection during certain times and the Editorís Note said there usually is an officer directing traffic for Farragut Primary School. True, but the officer is in no position to assist traffic control to his north at the intersection in question.

It may not be possible to assign another officer, but the writer is correct in saying that motorists making the left turn should not enter the intersection when there already are idle cars in the intersection. Perhaps Farragut should put up a sign advising motorists not to enter the intersection if they see that traffic is not moving.

The good news is the problem will resolve itself when the Campbell Station Road construction is completed. In the meantime, motorists should heed the advice of the writer and use good manners.

Harry Moskos
