Newby to find new home at Lipscomb

Alex Newby, a three-time All-state cross country runner and two-time track state qualifier in the 1600 run at Farragut High School, signed National Letter of Intent papers with David Lipscomb University, Nashville, during a signing ceremony in FHS Commons Friday morning, Feb. 12.

“I think Lipscomb’s going to be the perfect kind of fit for her,” said Chelsea Jacobs, FHS cross country/track and field head coach. “They’ve got a good program. She’s going to go on to college and really excel. She’s got the talent, obviously, and she has the drive and the hard work ethic that she needs to be a great collegiate runner.” Alongside Newby are her parents, Carla and Mark Newby. Standing, from left, are Mike Newby, uncle; FHS assistant cross country coach Bobby Holcombe; Hayley Newby, cousin; Bettye Newby, grandmother; Jordan Newby, brother, and Jacobs.
