Comfort Suites to close and renovate

Comfort Suites, 811 Campbell Station Road, soon will be closing for extensive renovations.

“I expect construction to start the first of March and approximately take six months,” owner Amit Patel, of Kisna Hospitality, said.

The hotel will not reopen until renovations are complete.

“We’re adding a third floor to it, and it’s currently both exterior and interior corridor, which means each guest room has an inside entrance and an outside entrance,” Patel said.

“We’re going to be making the entire hotel all interior,” he added, which will decrease the number of entrances to each room to one.

“All the new hotels are like that,” he added.

Patel said the renovations were due in some part to area competition, but also for guests’ safety.

“A lot of women are traveling nowadays on their own, and being an interior corridor hotel makes it a safer place to stay,” he said.

Patel said the hotel also would be “gutted,” including “everything from the public areas to the guest rooms.

“You name it, we’re changing it. It’s going to be upgraded to an upscale, contemporary scheme,” Patel said.

The new rooms will include flat screen TVs and “all the extra amenities that are in the new hotels.

“We want to be able to exceed those,” he said.

Patel also owns Country Inn & Suites next door, 805 North Campbell Station Road.

“That can serve as a relocation hotel for people who would want to stay at [Comfort Suites],” Patel said.

Comfort Suites has been at its current location 15 years.

According to Patel, he built the current Super 8 as a Comfort Inn & Suites in 1989, but the building since has been sold.
