D1 Sports relocating to Hardin Valley

D1 Sports is relocating from its location off Lexington Drive to Hardin Valley.

The new facility is expected to open in June.

“First of all, we’re moving because of size. We ran out of space where we’re at right now,” Bruce Nicoara, facility coordinator, said.

“And as far as Hardin Valley, it’s an area of growth and we’re looking to move into an area where there’s a possibility to expand,” he added.

D1 has been at its Lexington Drive location for five years.

“We’ve just outgrown it in the past few years,” Nicoara said.

D1 trains everyone from athletes to children.

“Our motto is ‘The Place for the Athlete,’ but we train kids from age 7 all the way up to adults,” Nicoara said.

“We call it personal training in a group setting,” he added.

Every age group has a coach who takes the group through its workout, including techniques designed to improve speed, agility, power and explosiveness.

“So it’s not like an open gym, where you just come and work out on your own. There’s a coach for different age groups,” Nicoara said.

“It’s everything just to make them a better athlete,” he added.

All trainers are certified, and most have advanced education degrees.

D1’s corporate headquarters is in Franklin, with 10 locations in the Southeast. Each of the chain’s Tennessee locations, including the Knoxville facility, is co-owned by former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Peyton Manning.

“Each facility is partnered with an athlete as a co-owner,” Nicoara said.
