HVA dresses for prom

Hardin Valley Academy added another event to the list – a fashion show. Students from all four grades were asked to participate in the show to benefit HVA’s 2010 Prom. The tickets were $5 a person and $3 for students. The seniors wore prom attire, courtesy of A Joyous Occasion. Participating juniors, sophomores and freshmen dressed in the fashion of today. Parents, students and family members came to support their special one last Thursday night.

History teacher Rebecca Pierce organized the show. She has plenty of experience putting on an event like this from doing it for three years at Central High School. Pierce explained that at her old school, this was always a great way to bring in the money, so she brought the idea with her.

She wanted to make sure to thank A Joyous Occasion, Walker’s Formal Wear, Pure Luxe Salon and Spa, Peach Tree Photography and Lisa Foster Floral Design. Wendi Prescott, a PTSA member at Hardin Valley, “spearheaded all of it to get everything donated,” said Pierce. She also had the generous help from some HVA administrators, Emily Garcia, Rachel O’Conner, Valorie Ogle and Teresa Scoggins.

Forty-six students walked the stage and modeled their best. When they were asked to be in the show, they knew this was an opportunity they could not pass up. The senior girls and boys went to try on their dresses and tuxes, and picked their top three favorites. Whichever one was still available was the one they wore.

Almost every color, cut, and style was worn by these students, which really shows the varieties the store has to offer. Cessali Fournier knew as soon as she was asked that she wanted to do the show. “It’s my senior year! I wanted to do something fun and exciting!”

Korrie Barnes, also a senior, was ecstatic to be a part of this, and signed up as soon as he heard about it. “I chose to be in the fashion show because I can’t pass an opportunity to dress up!”

The students in the ninth-, tenth- and eleventh-grades put as much effort into their outfits as the seniors.

Junior Zain Inklebarger worked hard on the perfect outfit for Thursday. “I tried on about six [outfits] a week since I heard about it. I picked this one out, and then changed my mind, and I ended up coming back to this one.” The clothes came from all over.

Kaitlyn Scott, a sophomore, went shopping to find her dress, while Abby Underwood, also a sophomore, stole hers from her sister’s closet. Everyone did a great job finding the right outfit for themselves.

Whether the students signed up right after they heard about the fashion show, or were asked to do it at the last minute, they were all extremely happy with their decision at the end of the night. It was easy to see how much fun they were having being a part of such a unique fundraiser. The crowd, participants, and organizers loved it, and cannot wait for another one next year.
