• Art Market Gallery of Knoxville will spotlight the work of two member artists, Janis Proffitt, woodturning, and Mary Ellen Bohm, paintings, March 30-May 1. • Pellissippi State Community College invites the community to view two free films about Appalachia as part of this year’s Common Academic Experience, which is based around the book “Storming Heaven” by Denise Giardina. “Country Boys” parts I and II will be shown March 18 and March 25, respectively. “Harlan County, U.S.A.” will be shown April 8. • Knoxville Symphony Orchestra presents the next installment of Chamber Classics Series at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, April 11, at Bijou Theatre. The concert will feature the KSO’s principal quartet – Miroslav Hristov and Edward Pulgar on violin, Kathryn Gawne on viola and Andrew Bryenton on cello, performing the music of Béla Bartok, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johannes Brahms. • “The Strings Awaken Spring” concert to be performed by the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra will be held at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 20, at the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center. Maestro Cornelia Kodkani-Laemmli is the conductor. The orchestra’s program will include the “Holberg Suite” by Edvard Grieg; “Danses Sacree et Profane” by Claude Debussy, with Cindy Hicks on the harp; and “Verlaerte Nacht” by Arnold Schoenberg. • The Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville and the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority at McGhee Tyson Airport announce a call for entries for the next “Arts in the Airport,” a juried exhibition developed to allow regional artists to compete and display work in the most visited site in the area. The selected art will feature contemporary two-dimensional artwork and will be exhibited in the secured area behind McGhee Tyson Airport’s security gate checkpoint from April 23 to Oct. 21.
