FUD advises of Turkey Creek Road closure

First Utility District informed Farragut Municipal Planning Commission members of a plan to upgrade two pump stations off Turkey Creek Road this summer — which also would mean closing the road at least partially — at the commission’s February meeting.

Troy Wedekind, FUD director of engineering and construction, told Commissioners two pump stations would need to be upgraded to allow higher capacity.

“The need for upgrade is apparent in certain rain events,” Wedekind said, adding this upgrade should “take us past my lifetime, anyway.”

Between the two stations, a sewer line also would have to be upgraded.

That sewer line runs under about 1,300 feet of Turkey Creek Road in the westbound lane. That lane would need to be closed for the entire length of the project, Wedekind said.

He advised Commissioners that FUD would close the road to all but local traffic.

According to Wedekind, signs would be placed alerting drivers the road would be closed to all but local traffic before construction began.

FUD also would contact Turkey Creek Road subdivision residents “one-on-one” to ensure they knew the Utility’s plans.

After construction was completed, FUD would repave and re-stripe that stretch of Turkey Creek Road, Wedekind added.

Vice Mayor Dot LaMarche moved to approve FUD’s plan; Commissioner Ron Honken seconded.

The motion was unanimously approved.
