• The 17th Annual Herman Gettelfinger Bass Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, on Fort Loudoun Lake. Event will begin at Tellico Canal Ramp. Ease off is at safe light. All proceeds benefit the Helen Ross McNabb Center and are 100 percent tax-deductible. Grand prize is $10,000 based on 150 paid boats. Registration fee includes lunch for all participants. Pre-event registration to be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 2, at Dick’s Sporting Goods (221 N. Peters Road, Knoxville). • Greenways 5K and 2 Mile Walk/Dog Jog begins at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 3, at West High School along 3rd Creek Greenway for all runners and walkers, including the dog jog. Pre-registration is $20 through March 26. Race day registration for runners, including registration after March 26 prior to race day, is $25. Registration fee for the walkers and dog jog is $15 through race day. Mail-in forms should be received by March 26, while online registration will be open until March 31. • The American Diabetes Association’s Knoxville Tour de Cure, Saturday June 5, is a one day cycling event geared to all cyclists. Routes include a 12-mile family ride for the novice riders and children plus 25-mile, 62-mile and 100-mile ride through scenic backroads. The ride will start at H.T. Hackney Co in Lenoir City, as each route will loop back to the start/finish line where riders can recharge with a meal, massage, music and kids’ activities. Route fully supported with rest stops, SAG vehicles, bike mechanics, EMTs and a full time ambulance. Free admission. Food sold at greatly reduced prices. Proceeds go to National Parkinson Foundation.

• Bearden High School’s boys basketball team, Region 2-AAA champions, led the way on the 2009-10 All-Region team. Junior guards Rico White, Ty Greene and Jaeland Lawson joined BHS head coach Mark Blevins, named region Coach of the Year. Farragut’s Katie Cargo, a junior guard, earned girls All-Region team honors.

• Knoxville Track & Field Club has set up a Post Collegiate Scholarship Fund for local athletes striving to compete on a competitive level. Ten scholarships will be given per year for $500 each. Deadlines for application is Sept. 1. Scholarships will be announced April 1 and Oct. 1. Athletes may only apply for scholarships once per year. To receive a scholarship, athletes must be a U.S. citizen and a Knoxville resident. Applications will be judged on merit based on an essay and application. All athletes receiving scholarship funding will be required to volunteer for at least one Knoxville Track Club event. To receive an application, visit KTC Web site at www.ktc.org.
