SJN essay winners

St. John Neumann Catholic School middle school students competed with nine area schools in the Character Counts for Life essay contest sponsored by Character Counts of Knoxville/Knox County. The students were required to choose a maxim and write an essay relating it to a foundation or value. The top five school-level winners from each grade level were invited to attend a celebration dinner Thursday, Jan. 28. School winners, in no order, are Cara Srdoc, Anastasia McGrath, Claire Gerkins, Tom Flammang, Mary Elizabeth Daffron, Stephanie Kraft, Katie Proctor and Jerome Rehmann (not pictured). Seven of the students were also district-level winners: Courtney Howington, Cora Vanderhoofven, Ella Monarch, Nick Armendarez, Lauren Frost, Jordan DeFilippo and Sarah Gerkins.
