Top 3 in Southeast

FHS boys cross country wins KIL, seeks region, state titles

Ranked No. 1 in the Southeastern United States in the first few days of October, Farragut’s varsity boys cross-country team — coming off a KIL championship at Sequoyah Hills Park Saturday morning, Oct. 8 — currently ranks No. 3 in the Southeast as voted by Dvestat.

“It’s exciting to be recognized as one of the best teams in the nation and the Southeast,” FHS head coach Chelsea Osborne said.

“The varsity boys team has been nationally ranked at various times throughout the season,” she added. “… (Two) other teams ranked near us in that list are outstanding teams, and after national rankings came out on Oct. 13 they are ranked above us (regionally). On Dyestat’s rankings, we are 29th in the country.”

Top runners include Trevor Coggin, Matteo Tonnos Braden Ebbert, Harrison Cunningham, Riley Hanson, Evan Beeler and Quinn DeGuira.

Looking back in explaining her team’s high level of success and recognition, “This boys team has been quietly working over the past four years with a commitment and dedication unlike any other team I have had,” Osborne said. “There is a lot of talent on this boys team, but it is also a team that pushes each other every day and really wants to be the best. They have fun training and truly love the sport.”

Up next for the Admirals varsity boys will be the Region 2-AA meet Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Victor Ashe Park.
