Tops among TPA non-daily Ideas Contest awards: farragutpress

Tops among non-daily newspapers statewide for its haul of 2022 Tennessee Press Association Ideas Contest Awards, farragutpress garnered 19 total awards: nine first place, three second place and seven third place.

This newspaper trailed only two daily publications in awards earned among all state newspapers: The Greenville Sun and Kingsport Times News.

This highly successful award effort — representing work from 2021 — was led by Tony Christen, farragutpress Production manager and Circulation manager; graphic designer Cindy Wilfert; former Advertising manager Cara Ford; Charlene Waggoner, former advertising account executive and new Advertising manager; and Advertising account executives Laura Sayers and Heidi Carino.

“I’m really proud of the work that is done by the farragutpress production team and advertising department on a weekly basis,” said Tony Cox, farragutpress publisher and president of Republic Newspapers, Inc., parent company of farragutpress. “The pride that is taken in trying to make our customers as successful as possible with their advertising shows.

“The quality of graphics turned out on a weekly basis from Tony Christen and Cindy Wilfert is exceptional,” he added.

“Our customers put their trust in Charlene, Laura and Heidi to convey their advertising needs to our graphics department. I believe they earned that trust. In the end, it’s about helping to make our customers successful.”

First-place awards were: Special Section: (Home is Where your Pet is); Self-Promotion of a Newspaper: (Award Winning); Single Color ad: (Foxy Locks); Quarter Page or smaller ad: (Confident Smiles); Auto-Boat ad: (Grayson Genesis); Food/Beverage ad: (Simpson’s Meats); Furniture/Appliance ad: (Blinds & More); Reader Contest: (Halloween Coloring Contest); and Niche Publication: (Centennial Celebration).

“I’m extremely proud of the accomplishment. Our team is just amazing,” Christen said. “The success we have had in five years (as a TPA member) is a true blessing. With my job duties, I have not been as involved in the production work as in years past.

“Many of this year’s accomplishments are truly the incredible work of graphic designer Cindy Wilfert,” he added. “She is my right hand, very gifted. She did an outstanding job. It’s an honor to be working with her.”

Second-place awards were: Self Promotion of a Newspaper: (farragutpress Fur Family); Furniture-Appliance ad: (Home Depot); and Reader Contest: (Find the Hawk).

“Our sales team does a remarkable job in finding out the clients style and what they are looking to gain from an ad,” Waggoner said. “But the real magic happens when our Production team brings it to life. They make our selling easy because our clients know they can depend on quality graphics they can be proud of,” she added.

Third place awards were: Sales Promotion for a Retailer: (Diamond Gallery ads); Multi-Color ad: (Creative Reflections); Single Color ad: (Foster’s); Black & White ad: (Zaxby’s); Feature Page: (Healthcare Heroes); Auto/Boat ad: (Pontoon Nation); and Niche Publication: (Sweetwater Visitors Guide).
