Griffith taking bat, arm to Lansing

- Alan Sloan/farragutpress
Jennifer Griffith, Bearden High School standout right fielder, signed scholarship papers with Lansing Community College (Mich.), an NJCAA Division II school, during a Wednesday, March 10, ceremony at BHS. “It’s a good opportunity, the campus is beautiful ... and it’s my dad’s home country,” said Griffith, 17, about her decision.

“I’d just like to thank everyone that’s coached me, they’ve really been my support through all these years. They’ve really pushed me through it.” Leonard Sams, BHS assistant coach, said Griffith’s early 2010 hitting has been “phenomenal,” adding she led BHS last season in hitting. “Great arm strength, that’s been her biggest quality.” Seated alongside Griffith are her parents, Lori and Mike Griffith. Standing, from left, are Andrea Veler, BHS softball head coach; siblings Julie and Michael Griffith, and Sams.
