Chesney takes Regal walk

Kenny Chesney kicked-off the premiere of “Kenny Chesney: Summer in 3D” at Regal Cinemas Pinnacle Stadium 18 & IMAX, Wednesday, April 14.

Pinnacle Stadium closed its regular movie showings for the charity event, raising $130,000 for Variety of East Tennessee, which serves local children.

“It’s a special time for me to release this film. I’ve been working on it for a long time — for years — been all over the world,” Chesney said.

“This is what life is like out on the road,” he added.

“Summer in 3D” is a “movie” of Chesney’s live concert performances in America.

Chesney, an East Tennessee native, said, “Growing up here allowed me to dream really big dreams. But, when I was dreaming as a kid in East Tennessee, I could not have dreamed-up tonight.”

More than 1,000 people viewed “Summer in 3D” Wednesday night.

Fans, hoping for a glimpse or touch of Chesney, waited for hours in the hot sun.

For 17 years, Connie O’Connor has tried to “get up close” to Chesney.

Even the family dog howls to his music.

O’Connor has relocated to Arizona, California, Texas and now Tennessee for a chance see the country music singer.

Her daughter, Rachel, also a fan, said the music has given them a “really good bond.”

In 2001, Regal Cinemas Chairman and CEO Mike Campbell and President and COO Greg Dunn started Variety’s local Chapter 81 with the help of two children with special needs.

Since then, the charity has started Zoo Day, Read It and See It, Variety Holiday Party and special movie screenings for area children, among other programs and events.

Nationally, Variety began in 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pa.

In “Summer in 3D,” Chesney performs live in Pittsburgh; Philadelphia, Pa., Seattle, Wash.; Indianapolis, Ind. and Foxboro, Mass.

The concert will be shown in theaters through Sunday, April 25, and April 28-29 and May 2.
