Parkwest shooting leaves two dead, two wounded

A Monday evening shooting at Parkwest Medical Center left two dead and two injured.

Knoxville Police said Abdo Ibssa, a naturalized citizen from Ethiopia, opened fire around 4:30 p.m. outside the hospitalís patient discharge center, killing 40-year-old Rachel Wattenbarger and injuring Nancy Chancellor, 32, and Ariane Reagan Guerin, 26.

Guerin and Chancellor both are being treated at The University of Tennessee Medical Center; they were listed as being in stable condition Tuesday.

All three victims were employees or former employees of Parkwest.

Ibssa also is dead, apparently from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

KPD said a note found at the suspectís home indicated he believed a doctor at Parkwest had placed an electronic chip in his body during a surgery in 2001. Ibssa was being treated for psychological problems.

Police placed the hospital on lockdown as City and County SWAT teams cleared the building floor by floor, looking for additional suspects.

According to police spokes-man Darrell DeBusk, KPD has not discovered any link between the suspect and the victims.
