Nation’s No. 2 FHS rolls; state’s No. 2 Dawgs next

Farragut boys soccer, now ranked No. 2 nationally according to ESPN Rise, responds best to a challenge.

“The bigger the pressure the better we play,” FHS head coach Wallie Culbreth said, reflecting on his team's 4-0 win against rival Oak Ridge Friday, April 16, at Farragut Intermediate School field.

Along with a 2-0 win versus Class A/AA power Knoxville Catholic, the state's No. 1 Class AAA Admirals entered the week perfect at 11-0-0.

A showdown versus archrival and No. 2-state-ranked Bearden (13-0-1 starting the week) is set for 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 23, at FIS.

Sam Eddy's first-half goal against ORHS (5-3-1 after the game), assisted by Ryan Stinton, left the Ads ahead just 1-0 at the half.

Culbreth's boys then responded after the break: a penalty kick from Brandon Klarner, a Wayman McLaughlin goal in the 58th minute assisted by Logan Whitman, and Klarner's second goal, assisted by Stinton.

The Admirals led in shots-on-goal 18-6.

Against the Irish Wednesday, April 14, Stinton — senior All-state midfielder — led Farragut offensively by scoring both goals.

McLaughlin assisted the second tally. According to FHS statistics, the Ads led in shots-on-goal 16-2.

Catholic fell to 4-2-0 after its loss.
