Evans Road washout

Chris Jenkins, assistant engineer for the town of Farragut, oversees Town Public Works crew members who continue “digging” into the cause of a roughly three-by-five-foot “cavity” in the westbound lane of Evans Road early Monday afternoon, May 3. Town officials found out about the hole “first thing” Monday, Jenkins said, adding “a catch basin might be a contributing factor,” given recent heavy rains. The immediate area around the hole — located in front of Sgt. Mitchell Stout Memorial Virtue Cemetery about one-quarter mile from Virtue Road — “has numerous sinkholes,” Jenkins said.
