CCS Golf Classic set for Gettysvue

Concord Christian School and Gettysvue Polo Golf & Country Club are joining forces for one heck of a golf fundraising event Monday afternoon, May 10.

The Second Annual Concord Christian School Golf Classic is an 18-hole, four-person format with shotgun start at 2 p.m., Monday.

On-site registration begins at 1 p.m.

Dr. Bill Wilson, headmaster at CCS (K-9th grade) closely works with “a committee of parents” who are “putting it together,” adding up to “about 20 people.”

As for Gettysvue, Wilson said, “A lot of golfers really like to play Gettysvue because it's such a nice course. We have room for 120 players ... our goal is to make $10,000 this year.”

Stephanie Koepfer, CCS parent committee chair, said Gettysvue “is a draw because of everything that is associated with the name ... private, exclusive, prestigious, beautiful,” adding its staff “has been so helpful in planning this event.”

Golfers have a chance to “ride home” in a new car: a 2010 Ford Focus will be given to the first lucky player to nail a hole-in-one (specific hole to be determined).

Also featured is a putting contest and longest drive contest “probably on a par four or par five [hole],” Wilson said. “One hole will be designated for a closest to the hole” contest.”

Proceeds this year “will be spent on expanding our library,” Wilson said. “Getting furnishings for the library and other materials ... We have three kindergarten classrooms that would like to put smartboards in their classrooms.”

Dinner awards banquet will follow. Individual player fees are $125, and includes green fees, golf cart, driving range balls, gift bag and dinner.

Wilson said “Gettysvue officials” would determine if and when play would be delayed due to bad weather.

Celebrating its 15th year, CCS has a current enrollment of slightly more than 400, Wilson said.

About last year's inaugural event, "It was very successful, we had over a hundred participants," Wilson said. "We had a great time. I think we raised a little over $7,000 and used that for technology and other school needs that we had."
