Lovell Heights man dies in motorcycle mishap

Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies are continuing an investigation into a motorcycle mishap that resulted in the death of a man in the Lovell Heights area Thursday, May 6.

Chris Billington, 43, of 10505 Pinedale Ave., was pronounced dead at The University of Tennessee Medical Center Thursday night after he was struck at around 8:30 p.m.

KCSO spokeswoman Ashley Haynes said a 15-year-old boy, described as a suspect in the case, was questioned by Knox County deputies and released into the custody of his legal guardians, an aunt and uncle.

WVLT-TV reported that area residents often have complained about the reckless driving and speeding of the “dirt-bike” riders in the neighborhood.

Billington, after repeated calls to local police produced no results, allegedly tried to step out and slow one of the riders when he was hit and knocked through the air landing on his head, witnesses told WVLT.

Billington was a Farragut High School graduate and s self-employed audio engineer for TV productions who traveled extensively around the country for his work. He lived in Vestal for a number of years until recently moving in with his mother to help care for her.

KCSO spokeswoman Martha Dooley said more information would be released when sheriff’s personnel complete the investigation.

Billington was laid to rest Tuesday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens off Alcoa Highway following graveside services.
