1k, 1,500pt. clubs grow: CAK girls

KNOXVILLE — The career points continue adding up for three ultra-experienced Christian Academy of Knoxville girls basketball players.

Senior shooting guards Emily Wilson and Madi Jones each entered the program’s 1,000-Point Club in December, while teammate Keira Leffew, a senior forward, eclipsed the 1,500-point career mark in a 62-60 victory at McMinn Central Thursday, Jan. 5.

“To get 1,000 points in a career, for anybody, is an accomplishment in and of itself,” said CAK head coach Abby Williams, whose team improved to 15-5 overall, 4-0 in district following a 72-19 win against rival Concord Christian School Friday night, Jan. 6.

“But to have three girls in the same class come away with something like that, it speaks volumes about how well we play the game together,” the coach added.

“Sharing the basketball, looking for each other. ... If one girls is off one night, there’s always another girl who’s got the ability knock down shots.”

Tough slate, outlook

The team’s five losses are attributed to playing “quality programs; we wanted the challenge early to prepare us,” Williams said about the schedule.

Overall, “Right now the biggest thing is just to stay consistent, no matter the level of competition,” the coach said. “We can’t use excuses like, ‘we’re young, we’re inexperienced, we haven’t been in this situation before.’”
