Town’s $15K donation helps make Farragut High School soccer ‘first class’

Farragut’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen got an update on its donation of $15,000 to Farragut High School’s soccer booster club last year.

“It was quite a surprise that the Town was so generous, quite frankly,” Terry Bobrowski said at the Board meeting Thursday, May 13.

“Your investment will be appreciated for many years to come,” he added.

The Town’s money was used to purchase a set of aluminum bleachers that seats about 250.

“Our goal was to construct a first class soccer complex at Farragut Intermediate School,” Dave Stinton, soccer boosters representative, said.

The soccer field is used for FIS physical education classes and for FHS boys and girls soccer teams.

In the past year, the soccer field has been upgraded with a fence, scoreboard, lights, concession stand and one set of bleachers.

“This is a great set of bleachers. … We thank you very much,” Stinton said.

“If you look at a pro soccer match on TV, you see much of what we have,” he added.

In the future, the soccer boosters plan to construct a permanent concession stand, a second set of bleachers and a press box. They estimate they need $75,000 for phase II.

In other business, the Board:

• Heard the 2010 Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan

• Approved, on first reading, an ordinance to amend Farragut Municipal Code by adding a chapter for celebratory gatherings, concerts, parades, races, demonstrations, public assemblies, block parties and picketing

• Approved, on first reading, an ordinance to amend Farragut Municipal Code by changing the appeals process for Stormwater Ordinance violations

Appeals would go to the Stormwater Advisory Committee, which will have a final say. This would streamline the process for those who want to appeal and for Town staff.

• Approved on-premise beer permits for Meksiko 120, 120 West End Ave., and for Muddoggs Cajun Grill, 138 West End Ave.
