• Farragut Baseball, Inc. to offer flag football this summer, with sign-ups at FB, Inc. Field 1 concession stand (off Northshore Drive) anytime that concession stand is open. Sign-ups end June 12.

• Kyle Waldrop, former Farragut High School Baseball All-American and Minnesota Twins first-round selection in 2004, is one step closer to pitching in the Major Leagues — possibly as a reliever. Waldrop, a relief pitcher for the Twins’ Class AAA Rochester (N.Y.) affiliate, has posted a 1.33 earned run average (1-0 record) in 40.2 innings, 24 appearances, with two saves, 25 strikeouts and eight walks through Sunday, June 6.

• Jessie Howard, Carson-Newman senior shortstop and former Farragut Softball standout, has been named a Slugger/NFCA NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region second-team honoree. Howard was among South Atlantic Conference leaders in batting average (.385), hits (65) and stolen bases (33).

• Miami (Ohio) University Baseball freshman Mac Thoreson, a former Farragut High School All-state honoree, recently was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week. Thoreson tossed a three-hit, complete game win versus Ohio May 20 with eight strikeouts, his second complete game of the season.

• One of 10 former Westside high school football standouts on the Tennessee Vols 2010 football roster, Cory Eggert, ex-Farragut standout, is a 5-foot-10, 205-pound junior wide receiver looking to advance from the Volunteer Squad (non-scholarship players).
