Oil spill affects local business

We at The Shrimp Dock of Farragut want to thank everyone who has come into our store concerned about the effects of the oil spill and its effect on our business and future.

Part of why we chose Farragut to open The Shrimp Dock West was we wanted a town where we could become an integral part of the community and we thank you again for your concern.

Yes, the oil spill has had an effect on shrimp and oyster prices. We have had to raise our prices and discontinue our frequent shopper shrimp giveaway ... we hope this is for the short term. What has made us so pleased is that the Farragut customer has never complained and has instead been most understanding.

However, we wish to assure one and all that at no time have we ever considered lowering our quality standards. All of our oysters come from Apalachicola, Fla., and thus far the spill has not hurt them, but it has raised their price. Our shrimp has never and will never be compromised on quality, but we are taking price increases weekly and trying desperately not to pass them on to you.

As a member of the Farragut Economic Committee I hear all of the time what a difficult place Farragut is to do business. WE do not agree with this. We have a long-term lease ... we are here to stay ... with your help we will ride out this tragedy ... and we thank you for your understanding.

Come see us, as we are the only market in Farragut selling only FRESH fish, shrimp and oysters.
