Cool, Kentucky, Michigan names in FHS coach search

Cool
Applicants from Kentucky and Michigan are among the candidates to become next head coach of Farragut High School varsity boys basketball, FHS athletic director Dwayne Simmons said.

Entering this week, Simmons said he had six total applicants and conducted “one phone interview” from an applicant “from Kentucky ... he had a really nice resume.”

Simmons said interviews would begin en masse this week, “and we're going to try and get something resolved by the end of [this] week.”

Among the six applicants is Chris Cool, FHS assistant coach under former Admirals varsity skipper Donald Dodgen the past two seasons and former Knoxville Catholic High School girls varsity head coach.

Other applicants include a former assistant coach at Oak Ridge High School and a former coach at West High School — neither of whom Simmons identified.

Knox County Department of Human Resources will evaluate, and likely approve, the school's selection, according to Simmons.

“Once we tell them who we want, they usually accept it,” Simmons said. “They're pretty quick [to respond] once the school makes its decision.”
