Dawgs survive vs MHS

The most important District 4-4A tourney score for Bearden was Bulldogs 50 Maryville 43.

Losing control of things beginning late in the second quarter against state-ranked and top-seed William Blount in the semifinals — seeing the Govs erase a 22-21 deficit with a 14-0 run, then go up by as many as 27 before winning 64-41 Saturday, Feb. 18 — was tough.

But Bearden (18-12) was still kicking entering the 4-4A consolation game against rival Farragut at FHS Tuesday evening, Feb. 21 (after deadline), looking to defeat the Admirals for the first time this season.

Region play awaits beginning Saturday, Feb. 26.

Bulldogs 50 MHS 43

Holding the No. 4 seed Red Rebels to 11 first-half points, No. 5 BHS maintained its 10-point halftime lead after three quarters. “We played better with the lead, which we haven’t done all year,” Bulldogs head coach Jeremy Parrott said.

Jake Poole, senior guard, scored a team-high 13 for Bearden, while BHS senior post Tyson Pirtle added 10.
