Taylor fires 17-U no-hitter

Xander Taylor, Farragut High School rising junior pitcher, fired a no-hitter among a field including some of East Tennessee's top 17-and-under baseball talent Saturday, June 12, during a tournament sponsored by The University of Tennessee at Anderson County High School.

A lefty who contributed several key victories as a starter for the 2010 Class AAA state champion Admirals, Taylor struck out 10 in six innings (complete game) for Padres Scout Team versus Team Elite Gray.

“He had a good mix, his breaking ball was really good,” Padres Scout Team head coach Thomas Berkery said. “He kept them off balance. ... Really made good pitches when he had to.”

How good is Taylor? “He's not quite as good as [Philip] Pfeifer, he's a close second place,” Berkery said.
