Stinton named Region 2-AAA boys soccer MVP; Culbreth is Coach of the Year


Midfielder Ryan Stinton, Farragut All-state boys soccer honoree who helped lead the Admirals to a 25-1-0 record and top-5 national ranking in 2010, recently was named Region 2-AAA Most Valuable Player.

Labeled by FHS head coach Wallie Culbreth as “the best player in the state,” Stinton, FHS Class of 2010 and District 4-AAA MVP, was one of seven Admiral players to earn All-Region honors this season.

Culbreth also was recognized, earning region Coach of the Year honors after earlier being named district Coach of the Year.

Nine other westsiders also earned All-Region recognition.

Other FHS honorees were Nick Muth, also district Defender of the Year; Stephen Matlock, also district Goalkeeper of the Year; Carlos Ramos, Sam Eddy, Wayman McLaughlin and Brandon Klarner.

Bearden, matching FHS by reaching Class AAA state semifinals (20-4-2), had four All-Region selections: Patrick Harmony, District 4-AAA Midfielder of the Year; Seth Williams, Carter Wykoff and Isaac Gwin.


Hardin Valley Academy, District 3-AAA Tourney champs, were represented by Dalton Guzman, Nick Skoda and Justin Haskell. Knoxville Catholic’s Max Herrera and Kosta Nassios also earned All-Region honors.

Second team honors: Marshall Ishmael of FHS, Alex Wilkerson of Bearden and Garrett Hay and Trent Stethen of Hardin Valley.
