• TSSAA Board of Controls reversed a previous TSSAA ruling on two Farragut High School baseball standouts and will allow infielder Nicky Delmonico and pitcher Philip Pfeifer to play in two national all-star games, it was announced last week. Officials from the Under Armour All-American Game, to be played Aug. 14 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Ill., and Aflac All-American Game, set for Aug. 15 at PETCO Park in San Diego, Calif., have contacted the rising seniors.

• Majorie Butler, Callie Heitzman and Justin Emerson led their westside high school track and field teams — capturing a pair of individual state titles each — to top four TSSAA state finishes. Butler, a Webb School of Knoxville sophomore, led the Lady Spartans to third in Division II by by winning state in 100-meter hurdles (14.22) and 300 hurdles (44.59) and finishing second in 100 dash (12.28). Heitzman's state title efforts in 100 dash (14.69) and 300 hurdles (44.38) paced Christian Academy of Knoxville's Lady Warriors to fourth in Class A-AA. Providing 20 of CAK boys' 50 points, allowing the Warriors to finish fourth, was Emerson's first-place runs in 100 (10.62) and 200 (21.70). Warrior Marcus Walker was champ in high jump (6-06.00). CAK’s Mary Thompson won 800 (2:24.97). Joanna Thompson of Knoxville Catholic was Class AAA champ in 3200 run (11:00.67) while taking second in 1600 (5:05.83). Rebecca Stover, a Bearden sophomore, was Class AAA champ in 1600 (5:05.41), while barely finishing out of first in the 800 (second/2:17.92). BHS junior Devrin Young finished just .01 of from first in boys 100 (10.76). Farragut senior Alex Newby took fourth in Class AAA 3200.

• Farragut High School softball tryouts at Bellamy Field are from 9 to 11:30 a.m. each day, Tuesday-Wednesday, July 13-14, rain or shine.
