Nordin answers quickly: BHS soccer, CPA end 1-1

KNOXVILLE — With barely 16 minutes to go in a scoreless match Friday night, March 23, it looked like Christ Presbyterian Academy’s boys’ soccer team would head home with a 0-0 tie against host Bearden.

Then suddenly, with 16:20 left in the match, CPA’s Jayce Harvey broke through with a goal, and the Lions led 1-0.

BHS’s Lucas Nordin, an All-American senior forward, knotted the match barely two minutes later. It ended in a 1-1 tie.

Nordin’s goal was a result of fighting through multiple defenders while maintaining possession, then making a long kick that beautifully curved into the goal. “I got the ball on the counterattack and I saw a space,” he said. “I saw my moment and I finished.”

Defensively, “Every team has two or three on me before the game even starts,” Nordin added.

“Good battle — would have liked to see us do a little more tactically with the ball,” said BHS head coach Ryan Radcliffe, whose team was 2-0-2 after the match. “I thought the emotions of the game kind of got to us.

However, “I was proud. I didn’t think we lost out on the physicality,” the SoccerDawgs coach added.

Bearden had 11 shots on goal to eight for CPA.

“We battled and hung in there and as a coach that’s what you ask for,” Radcliffe said. “Very physical.”

Sixteen teams will participate in the Bearden Invitational, Thursday through Sunday, March 30-April 2.
