Children’s Outreach Program $ sought

Children’s Outreach Program, started by sisters Cindy Walker and Marsha Hurst, currently is seeking monetary donations as the charity plans ahead for cooler months.

The organization, which is going into its fifth year, always is on the lookout for bargains as it purchases new coats, hats, gloves, socks, shoes and hoodies throughout the year for distribution every October.

“We are starting purchases for 2023 distribution,” COP’s most recent flier stated. “Our current goal is $5,000.

“This year, we were able to purchase brand-new hoodies for just a little over $1 each. A little goes a long way,” the flier further stated.

Contact Marsha Hurst for information or donation pickup at 865-237-3853.

This past year, COP helped keep about 200 Knoxville area students warm from 22 distribution points.

Walker and Hurst grew up in Choto — where Hurst still resides, as does their mother, Virginia Hurst, who also works with the charity.
