• American Cancer Society 2010 Golf Classic will be held Monday, Aug. 2, at Willow Creek Golf Club. Registration includes gifts.  Tourney follows a scramble format. For more information or to register, call Darryl Monday at 865-558-4055.

• Nick Reveiz, Tennessee Volunteers starting senior linebacker and former standout football player and wrestler at Farragut High School, has been chosen as a nominee for 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team among 112 college football nominees nationwide. The nomination is based on community service accomplishments. Reveiz participated in Kids Carnival Dance Marathon and also delivered Christmas gifts to needy children through Teams for Toys program. He regularly supports local youth through speaking engagements. 


• Westside student-athletes at Centre College, Danville, Ky., have been named to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll (minimum 3.25 grade-point average) for spring 2010 season: Heather Battenberg, a recent Centre graduate and former women’s swimmer and diver, is a graduate of Bearden High School. Kyle Binder, a rising junior men’s basketball player, is a graduate of Farragut High School. Don Plattner, a rising senior men’s tennis player, is a graduate of Webb School of Knoxville.

• Beginning this fall, Farragut Baseball, Inc. announces Mickey Mantle and Connie Mack leagues – which FB, Inc. used to offer in the past – will return again to the program starting this fall and again in the spring. Ages for Mantle league are 15-16 and for the Mack league are 17-18 per USSSA guidelines (born after April 30). Registration forms can be dropped off at Goin’ Postal in Farragut Towne Square Shopping Center or from the league’s Web site, www.farragutbaseballinc.com. • Tryouts for the Knoxville Heat, a new 13-Under baseball team for the spring/summer of 2011, will take place from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 1, and from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 7, at Knox Sports Park, Field No. 5. • East Tennessee Technology Access Center 12th Annual Al Wilson–Mack French golf tourney is Tuesday, Aug. 24, at Tennessee Centennial Golf Course in Oak Ridge. • Sign-ups for Fall Baseball season, Farragut Baseball, Inc., underway for ages 3-14 through Aug. 7.

• Second Annual Dr. Tom Kim Charity Golf Tournament and the Fifth Anniversary Celebration Banquet will be held on consecutive days to raise funds for The Free Medical Clinic of America, 6209 Chapman Highway. The best-ball golf tournament, comprising four-player teams, is scheduled for Wednesday morning, Sept. 22, at Centennial Golf Course in Oak Ridge. Those interested in sponsorship roles are urged to sign up by July 31. Deadline for all sponsor and banquet fees and team registration is Aug. 31.
