Red-light funds go to community grants

Farragut’s red-light camera revenue will be used to fund community grants in fiscal year 2011 — largely for Knox County schools serving Farragut students and non-profit organizations that serve the Farragut community.
At a meeting in June, Farragut’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the use of $156,000 in net revenue to be used for the grants.
The schools that benefit include all Farragut-named schools as well as Hardin Valley Academy.
Farragut has three intersections monitored by red-light cameras: at Concord Road and Kingston Pike, Campbell Station Road and Kingston Pike, and Smith Road and Kingston Pike.
A fourth camera is planned for the Grigsby Chapel Road and Parkside Drive, and will be installed after the Campbell Station Road widening project is completed.
