• Farragut High School Summer Insanity Day will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 9, at the high school. Students are encouraged to come at their allotted time: 1-2 p.m. for seniors, 2-3 p.m. for juniors, 3-4 p.m. for sophomores and 4-5 p.m. for freshmen. Students will be able to pick up their class schedules, locker assignments and will be able to sign up for clubs. Freshmen will have their photo ID cards and yearbook photos made. • Farragut High School alumni from any class are invited to join the Class of 1970 from 6 to 11 p.m., Friday night, Aug. 20, at Lakeside Tavern in Concord. Guests will pay their own bill Friday night at Lakeside Tavern. For more information, e-mail

• Hardin Valley Academy orientation for incoming freshmen will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16. It will be a special opportunity to tour the school, meet teachers and get a head start for the first day of school. Buses will run their normal routes.

• Knox County Schools’ first day of school for students will be Tuesday, Aug. 17. This will be a half day for students.

• Bearden High School Dawg Day will be from 1 to 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 9. Students are encouraged to come at their allotted time: 1-3 p.m. for seniors, 3-5 p.m. for juniors and 5-7 p.m. for sophomores. Do it all in one day, including parking permits, pick up finalized class schedule, pay fees, sign up for clubs and sports, lockers and receive bus schedules.
