Dukes No. 1

Abby Dukes, a sophomore who qualified for Region 2-AAA last fall as a freshman, leads the Hardin Valley Academy girls golf effort as team No. 1 in 2010.

“She handled that great,” HVA head coach Shane Chambers said of Dukes’ freshman season. “She is a very good player and can surprisingly hit it a long way for her size.”

Dukes (pictured) “is always working on her game, and she continues to improve.”

About earning a region berth as a freshman, Dukes said, “I was really proud of myself. I felt like I had accomplished a lot to get there.”

Dukes said the best part of her game “is probably my putting, I think it’s the most important part of the game. All the short game — chipping, putting — I work on that the most.”

Senior Liz Dobbins is No. 2 followed by McCall Beckler, a junior.

Both Dukes and Dobbins earned Region 2-AAA last season, while Beckler “missed out by a stroke,” Chambers said.
