•All Bearden High School parents are invited to attend the Fall Open House at 5:40 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 2. Parents will have a chance to visit their student’s class, join the BHS PTSO and sign up for volunteer positions. There also will be grade level meetings for parents of seniors and juniors. Parents of seniors meet in the auditorium. Parents of juniors meet in the cafeteria. Visit information tables in the West Mall (PTSO, Academic, Sports, Clubs and BHS Foundation.) At 6:20 p.m., meet in first-period class for announcements. Parents will then follow their student’s class schedule. New this year will be training on how to use the Parent Portal and Fusion computer programs related to Bearden High. There will be three sessions held in the library at 5, 5:30 and 8 p.m. 

• West High School Class of 1970 will host its 40th Reunion Oct. 1-3. Plans include a barbeque dinner followed by the West High homecoming game on Friday night, a Saturday evening mixer and a Sunday morning brunch. For more information, contact Anne Cain Allen at 865-567-8548 or

• AMSE Homeschool registration open for grades K-2 and grades 3-6 for scheduled hands-on science programs twice monthly from Sept. 17 through Dec. 17. For science topics, schedule, cost and registration form go to or come by AMSE. First come, first serve. AMSE Classroom.

• St. Mary’s Catholic Church and School hosts the 60th Annual Fall Festival. The kick off event is the 4th Annual Golf Tournament Thursday, Oct. 7, at Centennial Golf Course in Oak Ridge. • St. John Neumann Catholic School’s fourth-grade class has implemented a buddy program. The SJNCS program allows the upper elementary students meet and help lower elementary students with projects, activities and reading skills.

• The 7th Annual Pellissippi State Hot Air Balloon Festival will be held from 4 to 9:30 p.m., Oct. 1, and from noon to 9:30 p.m., Oct. 2. The event will be held at Pellissippi Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road.
