Tennessee Department of Transportation has begun a project at the Concord Road and Northshore Drive roundabout.
“It is a bridge repair project over the Norfolk Southern Railway on State Route 332 (Concord/Northshore),” TDOT spokesman Yvette Martinez said in an e-mail.
“Contractors will do full and partial depth repair on the bridge decks and repaint the existing steel structures,” she added.
TDOT spokesman Duane Manning confirmed the road project only involved some minor bridge repairs — not major work or widening plans.
Town Engineer Darryl Smith said the project would include closing one lane on Concord Road.
“They’ll be setting up signals to allow one lane closure across the bridge,” Smith said.
“It definitely affects us … it’s not going to be taken very while by a whole lot of people. And I imagine there will be back-ups.
“Now we’re getting into that real perfect storm” of road projects in Town, he added.
Manning said the project had a completion date of Oct. 31.
“This is a very short-term project,” he said.
According to Martinez, General Constructors was awarded the contract on July 19 for a bid of $269,477.60.
